At VeNture we try to fulfill Christ's command in Matt. 28 in the
Great
Commission, we recognize that part of our ministry must be to those beyond our neighborhoods and local
circles. For us, that's
looked like trips to Skopje, Macedonia in 2005, where we helped local missionaries lead a camp to equip the
Macedonian believers, teaching unity and providing bible training. That trip also helped lead a camp for
non-believers with sports, crafts, songs, and teaching on the person of Christ.
Our VeNture College group in 2005 went to Pass Christian, MS, to help Bible Fellowhsip Church rebuild from almost total destruction after Hurricane Katrina. If pastor Don Trest could get his facility running, that place could offer tremendous hope and comfort to the area, and have many opportunities to share the good news of Christ's love to so many people who are hurting in the Gulf Coast. This trip was all work (and a little play!)... We did roofing, framing, drywall, and tons of outdoor cleanup. The situation there needs much more work, so hopefully we'll be going back there again soon!
Locally, we're involved in
short term service as well. There are groups that go out almost every weekend with the
IBC Community Outreach Ministry
to go out and rake leaves for elderly members of the IBC congregation, serve food at local homeless shelters,
and do work, prayer, and evangelistic trips across the D.C., Virginia, and Maryland area.
We have a passion, as a community that strives to resemble the model of the early church in Acts 2, to love our neighbors and to share the love of Christ with the world around us.
